Müge Yilmaz’s artistic research focuses on the border between material and entity. Specifically, Yilmaz is interested in the Anthropocene or the Anthropogene, the era in which human activity globally leaves its trace on ecosystems and the geological composition of the earth, and where human beings become increasingly estranged from their own nature. In this transition from ‘biotopia’ to ‘technotopia’, Yilmaz searches for analogies and direct connections between different mythologies from the past, present and possible future, to identify the changes that archetypes endure when they are translated into different cultures and media. As a continuation to her stay in Kunsthuis SYB, Yilmaz presents the work The Concrete: The Mountain during the triennial: a performance and a tableau vivant, situated in the surroundings of het Witte Meer.
