Pia Louwerens & Katinka van Gorkum
Lesbisch Archivaria is a fanzine about the Lesbisch Archief Leeuwarden (L.A.L.), later named the Anna Blaman Huis, which existed from 1976 until 2013. The zine borrows its name from the eponymous periodical that was published by L.A.L. During their stay at SYB in 2023, Pia Louwerens and Katinka van Gorkum researched the L.A.L. and considered what it means to open up the intimate, early days of the archive in an artistic context.
In this continuum of the zine they merge documentation of their relationship, their collaboration and co-habitation as friends and roommates, with material from the former archive. On the occasion of this exhibition, they present a new page for the publication, highlighting events that took place after they left Kunsthuis SYB.
Pia Louwerens works with performance and writing in order to investigate how artwork, artist and institutional context co-produce one another. She was a researcher at a.pass, in Brussels and she completed a residency at Morpho, Antwerp. Her writing has been published, amongst others, in De Witte Raaf and Metropolis M.
Through writing and publication making, Katinka van Gorkum questions the feeling of the home as a stable base, by making private spaces public. She graduated from KABK in Den Haag, and has showcased her work in bookstores KIOSK Rotterdam, Bosch&deJong, Performatik 19 at Kanal Centre Pompidou Brussels and Ferryfestival Amsterdam.
