Rory Pilgrim

In the site specific installation To Live in Words, Rory Pilgrim explores the question of home and friendship in relation to their friend and guiding star Louwrien Wijers. Bringing together materials made over the last three years, Rory introduces the beginning of a long term film currently in production. Creating a wall drawing of the surrounding fields and nature of Wijers home in Friesland, Pilgrim wrote words from their conversations, which act as seeds from the present and future.
Rory Pilgrim works in a wide range of media including music, film, text, drawing and live performances. Centered on emancipatory concerns, Rory aims to challenge the nature of how we come together, speak, listen and strive for social change through sharing and voicing personal experience. Strongly influenced by the origins of activist, feminist and socially engaged art, Rory aims to work with others through different methods of dialogue, collaboration and workshops.

Rory Pilgrim was the winner of the Prix de Rome 2019 and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2023. Recent solo exhibitions opened at: Chisenhale Gallery London, Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd - Centraal Museum, Utrecht, WAMX, Turku and Kunstverein Braunschweig.
