it is part XLIX of an onary, nor notice is a direct reference and artistic translation of what anthropologist Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing describes as “the art of noticing.” In the words of the artists: “During our often long walks in the surroundings of SYB we took one or more anachronistic DV cameras with us. We filmed short fragments of things we noticed, mainly birds and plants and sometimes other things that caught our eye. We had in mind Tsing’s idea that we can no longer live like there is endless progress, and so that we should ‘look around rather than ahead.” The work is conceived as an index, showing a selection of the fragments, one after another. Accompanying the video is a printed list describing what you see, where and when.
About it is part of an ensemble: We are a multitude in the form of a collective. Our numbers fluctuate. We are artists, performers, dancers, actors, theater makers, students, theoreticians, in different stages of development, different ages, different cultures. Together we do residencies and organize projects, make exhibitions, performances, publications and teach, develop theater plays and record music. We sometimes literally live together, we cook and eat together, we paint, print, draw, film, jam, we read and discuss texts, visit exhibitions or take long walks. Central within our research is re-thinking: how do we live together, how do we work together? How do we shape our “togetherness?
