Antonio de la Hera & Honey Jones-Hughes

During their research period at Kunsthuis SYB, Honey Jones-Hughes and Antonio de la Hera engaged in a dialogue with farmers, food producers and the landscape of Friesland, exploring the complexity and multi-faceted nature of cover crops. These are crops grown to improve soil health, often by selecting specific plants to meet the needs of the land. Mustard is a common cover crop sown in the Netherlands and often used in alternation with wheat and potatoes. The local presence of mustard – both in culture and physically in the field – is important to better understand how cover crops function in policy and practice, and what their role is in sustainable agriculture. With Planting Mustard (something like a report), Honey and Antonio report to Kunsthuis SYB, the house that hosted them during their research on cover crops and the contemporary uses of mustard in the region. For It hûs is net ien, the artists sent a letter to Kunsthuis SYB, with research clippings resulting from their conversations with people living and working in the region
